A industrial painter was referred because of escalating anxiety. His GP had told him that he was depressed and prescribed antidepressants.
The anxiety began when he was painting a large pipe and looked up at a distant wall which suddenly appeared to come closer. He looked down and the floor appeared to come up to meet him.
I asked him to look at an item on my desk and see if he could bring it closer without moving it. He could, and easily. I asked him if he could make it go further away. Again is was easy. He was interested to discover that he could change his experience of distance with my front fence, with a tree, and other objects.
I wondered with him about who else in his family might have this skill. The next week he reported that his son could do this, but his wife could not.
He was feeling fine and had given up his antidepressants.
I really like this approach. I hope you are including these snippets in your forthcoming book.... Irene
