A country policemen was referred for help with work related stress. He said that for years he had been scraping bits of bodies off the road with a spade and he’d had enough. He’d been waking with nightmares for months and couldn’t manage working.
I told him that he’d been in a war zone, and the years that he had been doing this work was more than any human being could be asked to do. He was relieved to recognise that he was experiencing a normal response to an abnormal situation, and decided to quite the place force and find a more peaceful life.
