A wise man once said "There are no resistant clients - just resistant therapists."
Yet we can still get stopped, stuck, overwhelmed, resigned ...
There are ways that possible stoppers can be resolved ...
- We can validate someone's stuckness, suffering, frustration
- We can invoke learning as a possible option
- We can doggedly maintain our mood of expectancy in the face of a client's resignation which inoculates us and also has the possibility of infecting the client.
- Erickson said we can always have total confidence in the client and their ability to go into trance, find their solution ...
- And in the presence of persistent stuckness we can add this tiny word which has massive possibilities - “yet”.
