I notice that we live in a noisy world. There is noise everywhere, and if there happens to be some quietness, there's a compulsion to disrupt it with music, turning on the TV, anything to avoid the quietness.
What is it about quietness that can haunt us? Is it that our thoughts have a chance to get our attention? Do we retreat from being bored?
Just as "Nature abhors a vacuum", it seems that human nature abhors quietness ... and yet ... how often do new ideas, a resolution of some dilemma, an elusive memory appear when the environment, internal or external, is quiet enough for them to have an opportunity?
There's something peaceful about the Zen saying "Sitting quietly, doing nothing, Spring comes and the grass grows deep in the forest".
Would you like to have more quietness?
Let the learning continue ...
